NCU CASE STUDY

BACKGROUND AND SCOPE OF WORK

To promote excellence in Technical and Management education The NorthCap University (NCU), Formerly ITM University, Gurugram was founded in 1996 as the Institute of Technology and Management, Gurgaon by Educate India Society and affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. The institute was conceived as Institute of Technology and Management in response to the acute deficiency of Centre of higher learning, in the country, as also, the need to develop relevant, human Capital to meet the Technology and Management Challenges of the 21st Century. The founders had a clear and well defined mission-to build an unaided Self-financed University committed to delivering education of internationally recognized standards. A University that would go on to serve an intellectual resource base in India and the subcontinent. The society aim from the beginning has been to make this University the most eminent in the country in order to draw to it the youth of every state.

The university needed to adapt to the paradigm shift in instruction by making the lectures more accessible to virtual students, but also ensure that professors had the resources available to teach the students more effectively in-person.

SAVI VISION Pvt Ltd, (SVPL) New Delhi, was selected to modernize NCU, Smart Class Room Solution with Audio & Video conferencing capabilities. Specifically Digital Dante base Audio, Ceiling Mike, led Panel, Videoconferencing, Presentation, Digital Podium and Complete Automation, NCU wanted to make World-class Virtual Smart Class Room.

  • Update lectern with modern adapters and connectors for laptops
  • Update audio and video capturing system for in-person and virtual classes
  • Install a wireless and lavaliere microphone system
  • Install ultra-high definition camera systems
  • Integrate the system with the lectern controls
  • CHALLENGES

As SVPL is over 35 years old, SVPL knew that its engineering and installation team had to take great care to preserve the character-defining elements of the modern smart virtual video conference lecture hall for the upgraded AV equipment. SVPL engineers had to mock install the complete AV System within stipulated time.

Since the installation of equipment was scheduled to begin in July 2021, at the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, SVPL had to follow strict safety protocol from both the university and the State of Haryana. In some cases, these safety requirements limited the amount of install technicians that could be present at any given time. SVPL was quick to adapt to this chance and formulated an installation schedule that reduced staff overlap, but followed a logical agenda that focused on completing individual systems (i.e. cameras, digital audio Dante system, panel, Digital Podium, control systems, etc.). This scheduling methodology allowed SVPL to install, test, and tune systems as they were installed.

  • OUTCOME

SVPL completed the system integration within schedule and in time for the fall 2021 semester. After demonstrating the new Virtual smart class room, faculty and students alike were impressed with the clarity and brightness of the content compared to the previous projector-based system. As the 4k LED twin Panel has a much lower operating cost, it produces crystal clear high brightness content.

Additionally, lecture audio and video can now be captured in both high fidelity and high definition thanks to the improved beam array microphone and UHD camera systems. Streams and lectures can now be made available in real time or for future reference with the use of the capturing and storage technology implemented by SVPL.
